Making Time For Reflection
Making time for reflection is so important to me. It allows me to relax and take some time to think about those important people in my life. Family, friends, staff, business partners, and clients come to mind first. Then I think about all the volunteer activities I am involved with throughout the year. I amaze myself sometimes that I have the energy to be as involved as I am in so many ways. I am very blessed and thankful for this energy.
Holidays are a great time to reflect. As the year comes to an end we try to not get caught up in the commercialization of the holidays. Staying grounded and finding time for ourselves is so important, but often so difficult. I think the trick is knowing when to say no and not beating ourselves up for allowing a little self-care every now and then.
This is so critical especially at this time of the year. I am getting better at this and realize it is part of my journey on this earth to remind myself I cannot be there for everyone. I have a large family and lots of loving friends. I know how fortunate I am. I am in good health and I am basically a cheerful person who looks at the glass as half full. I have few complaints and feel my attitude is one of my strongest attributes. It takes a little work for me to remain positive sometimes, but the alternative is not something I want to spend time on in my life. One of my favorite quotes is from Marcel Proust.
“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
My wish for all of you this holiday season is to think about Proust’s quote and find the time to spend a few minutes this hectic season and reflect on those people who make you happy. And just watch how those charming gardeners will make your souls blossom.
