How do some teams thrive while others merely survive?
This question really speaks to me. I’ve held different types of jobs and worked with different types of people throughout my career. The work landscape has been changing even before COVID turned things upside down.
Full-time jobs are less important now than before. As my friend Jeremy Epstein discussed in his blog last November we need to change how we look at value versus hours worked. This concept presents a difficult challenge for many companies.
I directed a large staff with managers who managed outcomes based on 40+ hour work weeks in a previous life. Today, my team is relatively small, very talented, and works with streamlined and executable processes where client satisfaction is our primary focus. Forty hours a week is not a critical component of how we operate. I have learned over the years that surviving is overrated. Build a talented, connected team, and you will create successful outcomes. Some teams survive while others thrive.
I learned early on that it takes surrounding yourself with a team of talented people to be successful. Realizing we are not all built the same way, and we are not all good at the same things is essential. Establishing genuine human connection from every interaction is critical to outcomes. Magic can happen when a team feels respected, listened to, and at ease.
My experiences led me to starting my own business and building the kind of team I wanted to be a part of. And, I’m able to use what I’ve learned to focus on helping business owners build connections. This is one of my favorite topics. Let me know if you’d like to talk more.
